so the first newsletter sent in this past november was a success. i was able to give away 30 cds to many involved friends. finally
a chance to clean out the closet!
also it's official - i've hit the 30 release mark. okay maybe not all released under the offthesky
moniker but certainly as an artist it's impossible to not try and branch out into different genres.
the first offthesky dvd of videos will be released along with the
"geometry of echos" record on anticipate in late 2009. this is a collaborative effort betwixt video artist sarah h.dot and myself. early '09 will lend collaborative release between teo(opium), billy gomberg, and darren mcclure and i started in late '07/early '08 to be released respectively on silentes, experimedia, and symbolic interaction. also i'll be putting out a record with archipel at some point this year. go team friends!
i also recently aquired an old piano that will no doubt shape the future of my current sound. as well i've recently finished a study of music based soley around the vibraphone (thanks colin campbell for letting me borrow that lovely instrument!). so as is mostly the trend during
the bitter cold months, i'll be holing up and poslishing off several new works for 2010. i've got to get in a bucket load before the world ends in 2012! ;)

as i was working on the website adding a nifty new mailing list / contact form, i had
an idea to actually make this site usefull. i'm going to turn this news section
into a sort of audio blog. each week i will try and release some 1-2 minute sample, sound scape or
live recording along with small picture for each piece. writing for the archipel blog recently gave me this idea. anyway
it will hopefully give people a reason to stop by! stay tuned as this sound
posting diary will start in september...

well here we are again. another sleepless night and finally a gumption to do some manual labour on this page.
i just finished a live show opening up for the lovely band
matmos in boudler. jordan munson and i modified the
phonograffiti installation project
to allow for several painters to paint sound on canvas live during a most uppity musical set. those songs are soon to be tracked out
with the illustrious
j. munsun in the savvy studios at
iupui in indiana. those pieces will be much more aggressive and
action packed so they'll probably end up in one of my more beat oriented projects i'm associated with - juxta phona. speaking of
which, the
juxta phona + offthesky projects have just released a new record via
somnia. Also in the pipeline for release are one "subtle trees" record due out any day now on
ropeswing cities base out of denver. this
record was eventually slated to be out on the now defunct(?) autoplate but by the good graces, found a better home elsewhere. the
follow up to the 12k term release,
form creek called "creek caught fire" will
be out via
the land of late this year. as well opium and i have created a
third release and follow up to
autunno
under the moniker muridae... this release due out sometime next year (breath... huff huff).
last but not least, there are two
color cassette
records out this august via moteer's sexy sub-lable "
mobeer", and the other to be released
out via
autres directions late this fall.
all work and no play makes jason a psychopathic killer like one of the kubrick films! true but at least i'm getting out every now and then for a bit of fun:
coming up this september is the
decibel festival in seattle. i'm proud to say i'll be helping out both in the audio and video dept. on two seperate days of the fest.
now if only i could find my raincoat...
