also it's official - i've hit the 30 release mark. okay maybe not all released under the offthesky
moniker but certainly as an artist it's impossible to not try and branch out into different genres.
the first offthesky dvd of videos will be released along with the
"geometry of echos" record on anticipate in late 2009. this is a collaborative effort betwixt video artist sarah h.dot and myself. early '09 will lend collaborative release between teo(opium), billy gomberg, and darren mcclure and i started in late '07/early '08 to be released respectively on silentes, experimedia, and symbolic interaction. also i'll be putting out a record with archipel at some point this year. go team friends!
i also recently aquired an old piano that will no doubt shape the future of my current sound. as well i've recently finished a study of music based soley around the vibraphone (thanks colin campbell for letting me borrow that lovely instrument!). so as is mostly the trend during
the bitter cold months, i'll be holing up and poslishing off several new works for 2010. i've got to get in a bucket load before the world ends in 2012! ;)
..........may. 14 - 'o8<< oh man i'm so bad at upkeeing this site sometimes. sometimes i wonder if anybody even reads this smut. regardless the only way i can feel like i'm getting my money's worth of the ftp space is to keep up with this clamorous task. so whats new? well too much to put here: new job as creative director of software dev company, upcoming release of side band ' color cassette' album 'forever sparrow'. i.e. i'm actually doing some singing these days (the voice is the hardest yet most fun instrument), upcoming release of a duet album on somnia records - 'juxta phona vs. offthesky' (yet another odd project), an album on nyc based lable the land of, and two more records two find a home very soon. at some point i will sleep but not any time soon. ..........jan. 6 - 'o8<< happy new year everybody! i have many projects coming in the mix. several new colaborations with fellow artists beta2agonist, darren mcclure, billy gromberg and more. also im developing an interactive installation involving painting and sound: phonograffiti. ..........october. 17 - 'o7<< so it's getting close to my fav holiday - halloween. this is the only time when we can all feel safe and free in a social setting: hidden behind some mask and some fake blood; too much fun. so for your trick or treat candy bag, i give you all 'form creek' out now on 12k's fabulous term project. you can download it from my works page (scroll to the bottom) or direct from the 12k site. and the best part is, you won't get a cavity from it! this week 'cumulae movement' should also be released on autoplate - this is one 30 minute movement with 3 parts. i'm very excited about working with longer movements. please check back in a week or so as i'm going to be posting several video projects i've been working on lately - a study in cloud formations with unreleased soundtracks. definitly good vegitation media. they'll be posted on the media page and youtube ..........october. 5 - 'o7<< not much new to report here except that i just purchased a zoom h2 field recorder - this device is amazing and inexpensive; it's revolutionizing my work. also i'm building an interactive sound/video sculpture for several university events coming up. as well several ep's are soon due out via respectable and upcoming net labels: term, eko, autoplate, and resting bell. also i'm doing some remixes on the side for apples in stereo, archipel, and thinner. busy busy as a bee. finally i've commissioned lexington's own darryl cook(aka walter carson) to host the woman's 09 shows for me. godspeed you white emperor! ..........August. 12 - 'o7<< wow i have been working very busily to finish up around 5 different releases. a new ep is out now via atmoworks: offthesky - du soleil check out the flash experiment on the home page. this is a little song that you can improvise on yourself. i have been exploring the world of writing my own interactive instruments via flash and reaktor so be sure to check my media page for upcoming finished projects. also, check out my page on the karate jones site. kj is a collective of weirdo artists all working on different installation art pieces invloving light, but mostly sound. some interesting stuff to come from this group... ..........June. 5 - 'o7<< offthesky will release !@#$*! via panospria (QC) in a month or so. this release features a new experimental compositional theory using winamp and a series of over 1000 samples playing all at once. perhaps my most expressive and experimental work to date. also, i have teamed with danny kreutzfeldt to form the duo called 'shelter's end'. we have just finished up a 30 minute texture movement called extract from epilouge. it will be release via con-v in a month or so. ..........May. 27 - 'o7<< added more offthesky field recording samples to the freesound community site. check out the freesound page to learn how you can contribute or utilize the vast array of sounds available for free. ..........May. 19 - 'o7<< social system - "Besides I Rest Now" EP out soon if you are into the minimal techno architecture of plastikman, villalobos, pheek, etc. definitly check out this release. ..........May. 14 - 'o7<< this weekend i will be performing a special sunrise meditation set at 9am at the terrapin hill spring cleansing festival. the event will feature Tai Chi, QiGong, Yoga etc. for the attendants of the metaphysical festival to relax and start their day to. more info about the festival here ..........May. 03 - 'o7<< now there is finally a photo gallery. a work in progress. just finished a noise/texture experiment with denmark's danny kreutzfeldt. it will be release on con-v soon. new woman's 09 show in progress.check here for more info ..........April. 15 - 'o7<< in higher news i am working with "the sound machine" project - an organization that is puting together a video/audio dvd compilation of artists from around the world(Fennesz, marsen jules, Murcof, pheek,beta2agonis, myself, etc...). the proceeds will go to the roald dahl foundation. its beautiful to see more recognized musicians donating their influence and talent to a higher cause. : offthesky vs Pheek: "Social System" LP out ........................................................... ..........Mar. 18 - 'o7<< in other news i have done some massive updating to this website such as adding in a complete discography of all offthesky albums as well as other noteworthy or free releases. you can easily download all the mp3 "netaudio" as well as samples from some of the CD releases by right-clicking on the link and choosing "save target as". finally, the geist cycles is in pressing as i write this. i'm very excited about this album as it is a bit of an evolution between "it is impossible to say just what i mean" and "gently down the stream". i'm not an artist who 'chews cud' or regurgitates a process but rather one who desires the constant exploration and evolution of the mind to reflect in the conceptual output.

........................................................... ..........Jan. 27 - 'o7<< also, i put new tracks up at the myspace page - check em out right now 'the geist cycles' LP release show is scheduled for march 4th at mecca - fortunately for you out of countryers, we'll document the event via video and i'll be putting an outake quicktime up soon thereafter. one project that i've been wanting to undertake is to put a series of special releases and videos on this website to give people more of a reason to check this page out. so i'll probably work to get some unreleased tracks underway and online in the next few weeks. stay tuned... in futher news, im working on setting up another europe tour for the late spring. i'm still in contact the my booking channels so no news as of yet, just a lot of positive energy going into it. honestly, i just need a vacation! all work and no play... well you've seen the shining...

..........Oct. 13 - 'o6<< okay so whats going on? these days i'm working on several new albums but have just finished up two colaborative albums with the Italian artist opium. the first album is titled "the present day" and will be released on the Holland Practising Nature Databloem sublabel in a month. i have provided the tricky percusive aspects on top of teo's beautifuly crafted field droans. Check it out. Also, a colaboration between APK (aka the cirular ruins) and I has come to frutition and is now available via DataObscura records. The release is titled "We All Fall Down" and is a mix of my samples, Tony's synthesizer work, and also his mixing.
